Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially inaugurated the Lagos State Housing Estate, Ajara, Badagry Phase 1, featuring a total of 420 residential units.
During his speech, Governor Sanwo-Olu announced that the estate is named in honor of Sunny Akinsanya Ajose, a distinguished former head of service in Lagos State. He emphasized the administration’s ongoing commitment to fostering collaborations that enhance the affordability and sustainability of housing for all Lagos residents.
This ceremony marked the launch of the 24th housing estate developed under his leadership, which the governor described as a significant achievement in the broader vision of building a Greater Lagos.
The newly completed estate in Badagry exemplifies the government’s focus on developing well-planned, livable neighborhoods. It boasts a range of modern facilities, including well-constructed roads, a water treatment plant with both elevated and underground reservoirs, an advanced drainage system, secure perimeter fencing, a gatehouse, sewage treatment infrastructure, ample parking, pedestrian pathways, and a robust electrical grid equipped with transformers.
Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted that Badagry has benefited immensely from strategic investments in critical infrastructure such as roads, healthcare centers, and educational institutions. These improvements have transformed the historic town into an emerging hub for eco-tourism, cultural heritage, and commercial activities.
The project has generated over 1,300 jobs throughout its construction phase, both directly and indirectly. Furthermore, once fully occupied, additional employment opportunities will arise from estate management and related services.
Over the past six years, the administration has successfully delivered 23 housing estates, providing more than 10,000 homes catering to diverse income groups-low, middle, and high-across all five divisions of Lagos State.
As the current administration approaches its conclusion, the governor reaffirmed the dedication to bridging the housing deficit by prioritizing smart infrastructure investments that extend development beyond the city’s core.
He also revealed plans to finalize four other housing projects at various stages of completion: Lagos State Housing Estate, Ibeshe Phase II (192 units); Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Scheme, Clusters 2 & 3 (587 units); Epe Housing Scheme, Ita Marun (112 units); and LagosHOMS Sangotedo Phase II, Eti-Osa (524 units).
Each of these initiatives underscores the administration’s conviction that every Lagosian deserves a secure and comfortable home, regardless of their location or financial capacity.
At the event, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, the Commissioner for Housing, described the Ajara Housing Estate as a landmark achievement in Lagos State’s ongoing mission to expand access to modern, affordable, and sustainable housing for its citizens.
He further stated that the 420-unit estate stands as a clear reflection of the state’s vision and the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to fulfilling the objectives outlined in the T.H.E.E.E.S Plus Agenda.
