Honorable Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Governor of Ondo State, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing educational infrastructure and prioritizing the welfare of students.
During a recent dialogue with student leaders at the Governor’s Office in Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa praised the maturity and responsible behavior exhibited by student representatives from various tertiary institutions across the state. He attributed the current peaceful atmosphere within the education sector to their cooperative spirit and disciplined approach.
“I want to express my appreciation for your exemplary conduct. Since taking office, there have been no incidents of student unrest. Your engagement has been peaceful and constructive,” he remarked.
Recognizing the economic challenges faced by citizens amid ongoing national reforms, the Governor encouraged students to remain resilient. He assured them that these difficulties are temporary and emphasized that the reforms are already beginning to yield positive results.
“The hardships we are experiencing now are short-term and gradually easing. The reforms are delivering tangible benefits and strengthening our economy. Without these measures, the situation in Nigeria could have deteriorated further,” he explained.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also highlighted the importance of partnership in tackling the issue of student housing, noting that government resources alone are insufficient to meet all demands.
He appealed to private sector investors to develop hostels on or near university campuses, emphasizing that such investments would not only support government efforts but also improve student safety.
“It’s unrealistic for the government to provide everything due to limited resources. Therefore, we invite investors to construct student hostels close to campuses. This is a promising business opportunity that will also enhance security for students,” he stated.
On the topic of infrastructure, the Governor outlined several ongoing and completed projects throughout the state, including the reconstruction of the Akungba-Ikare road. This initiative was launched to reduce the high incidence of accidents in the vicinity and to boost local economic activities.
“The Akungba road had become a hotspot for accidents, especially near the university. Although it’s a complex project, we have commenced work and are committed to its completion,” he assured.
