Exciting developments are underway for enthusiasts of film and Afrobeats music! Judith Audu Productions, in partnership with Switch Visual Productions, has officially commenced filming on Evi, a female-driven Afrobeats feature crafted and directed by the acclaimed Uyoyou Adia, known for her award-winning work on Casa De Novia.
Scheduled for a release in mid-2026, Evi centers on the life of Oghene Donalds (nicknamed Evi), a gifted yet fiercely independent Afrobeats artist. Her glamorous career takes a sudden hit when her record label abruptly terminates her contract without any form of compensation. Stripped of her support system, Evi confronts the harsh realities of the music business. Accompanied by her steadfast best friend and a manager grappling with his own issues, she embarks on a transformative quest to reclaim her voice and rebuild her career from scratch.
This project signals a fresh direction for Nollywood, blending the infectious energy of Afrobeats with the poignant storytelling of a musical drama-a genre seldom explored on such a grand scale within the industry. For producer and actress Judith Audu, Evi resonates deeply:
“This film is dedicated to every woman who has ever been pressured to diminish herself to fit societal expectations,” Audu shared. “Evi is a fearless and unapologetic narrative that celebrates women’s ability to overcome adversity and flourish on their own terms. We anticipate it will deeply connect with viewers worldwide.”
Produced by Judith Audu Productions-known for titles like Just Not Married and Shanty Town-alongside Switch Visual Productions, founded by filmmaker and international travel entrepreneur Damilola Osikoya, the film champions empowerment both in front of and behind the camera. The two production houses previously joined forces on the six-part series Hustle and are eager to expand their collaboration in 2026.
For Osikoya, Evi represents more than a cinematic endeavor; it’s a platform to share a story that transcends cultural boundaries:
“As someone passionate about both filmmaking and global exploration, I’m drawn to narratives that cross borders. Evi is not only captivating entertainment but also a powerful message about authenticity, perseverance, and representation. This partnership allows us to bring that vision to life in a compelling way.”
Supported by CcHub in collaboration with Africa No Filter and backed by the Gates Foundation, Evi exemplifies Nollywood’s progressive shift toward bold storytelling with international appeal.
Director and writer Uyoyou Adia, whose work often delves into the balance between vulnerability and strength, emphasizes the emotional core of Evi:
“My goal is to create stories that resonate deeply with audiences. This film goes beyond music-it’s about resilience and the chance to start anew. Many female artists endure these battles quietly. Through Evi, we hope to inspire viewers with a tale of courage and renewal.”
Featuring an all-female production crew, a focus on the vibrant Afrobeats scene, and a narrative rich with emotional depth, Evi promises a cinematic experience that celebrates rhythm, strength, and representation. Casting announcements and further production updates will be shared in the near future.
