Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State, has announced ongoing plans to introduce shuttle bus services designed to transport passengers and their baggage from key urban centers within the state directly to Gateway International Airport. This initiative aims to streamline access and improve convenience for travelers.
In addition, Governor Abiodun shared that arrangements are nearing completion to establish car rental services at the airport, enhancing ground transportation options for visitors.
The governor made these remarks on Thursday while boarding a scheduled Valuejet flight bound for Abuja. He emphasized his administration’s commitment to continuous improvements and expansions at the airport facility.
“We are committed to providing reliable bus transit from major towns such as Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode, and Ilaro, with scheduled departures to ensure passengers arrive at the airport punctually,” he explained.
Reflecting on the global recognition the airport has garnered since launching its inaugural commercial flight, Governor Abiodun expressed that this achievement motivates his team to maintain high standards and instills pride among the people of Ogun State.
“There is immense satisfaction in witnessing a vision materialize. The success of the first fully booked flight validates our efforts,” he remarked.
“This site was once dense forestland, and many doubted its potential. However, our belief, supported by expert consultants, has transformed it into a vital component of our integrated transport strategy. Now, Ogun State is accessible by road, rail, and air,” the governor added.
Also on board the flight was Oba Olufolarin Ogunbanwo, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom in Epe, Lagos State. He hailed the airport as a landmark achievement that will endure through generations, commending Governor Abiodun for securing a lasting legacy.
Oba Ogunbanwo highlighted the airport’s potential to unlock new avenues for investment, enhance multi-modal transportation networks, boost tourism, and create employment opportunities.
“I am thrilled and deeply proud to congratulate Governor Dapo Abiodun and his team for bringing this monumental project to life,” he said.
“My kingdom is just a 40-minute drive from here, and this airport spares me the inconvenience of traveling all the way to Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for flights.”
“As I prepare to fly to Abuja, I feel relaxed and excited. The airport’s world-class service and facilities make the experience truly exceptional,” Oba Ogunbanwo concluded.
