The federal government has instructed the road-rehab/” title=”Wike Launches Major 15km Karshi … Rehabilitation …”>contractor responsible for the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road project to accelerate the completion of two key segments, with a particular focus on expanding the number of active work zones between Jere and Kaduna in Kaduna State. The goal is to ensure the project is finalized within an unprecedented timeframe.
Following a meeting with Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and representatives from the contracting firm, Infiouest International Limited, Minister of Works Engr. David Umahi issued this directive from his office.
According to a statement from the minister‘s special adviser, Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji, Umahi emphasized, “We have been closely tracking this project on a near-weekly basis. Consequently, we convened a meeting with the Managing Director of Infiouest, who is overseeing Lot 1, valued at N252 billion, and Lot 2, covering 82 kilometers in Kaduna State, totaling 164 kilometers at a cost of N502 billion. The entire stretch from Abuja through Kaduna to Kano is budgeted at N754 billion.”
He instructed Infiouest to mobilize resources across four distinct sections to maintain consistent progress. Additionally, the minister ordered the project’s engineering representative to relocate to Kaduna to provide daily updates and rigorously supervise the work.
Umahi reassured Governor Sani that both the pace and quality of the construction would be closely monitored to guarantee timely delivery.
“The President is deeply committed to the swift completion of this project,” he affirmed.
He further highlighted that the road would be constructed to the same high standards as the coastal highway, a legacy that the northern communities will remember as a testament to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to nationwide development.
Governor Uba Sani, reflecting on the meeting, expressed confidence in the project’s trajectory and the quality of workmanship demonstrated so far.
He predicted that within two weeks, the contractor would achieve significant progress, inspired by the productive discussions held with the Minister of Works and the project team.
Governor Sani also underscored the strategic importance of this road, noting that it serves as a vital transport artery linking the economic hubs of the North West, North Central, and North East regions.
