On October 9, 2025, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division and Commander of Sector 3 Operation Fansan Yama, spearheaded a successful mission that resulted in the liberation of kidnapped individuals in Kwara State.
During his visit to the Onidofin of Idofin, Oba Pius Oluwole, Major General Nnebeife addressed the aftermath of a violent raid by bandits on traders in Olegbede Village, located approximately 12 kilometers from Idofin Ayekale. The attack tragically claimed the lives of three residents.
According to a report from Lt. Colonel Polycarp Okoye, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 2 Division, the GOC’s visit was prompted by the recent banditry incident near Idofin in Ayekale Village, within the Omu-Aran local government area of Kwara State.
Oba Oluwole explained that the frequent assaults on his community are largely due to its nearness to the Babasango Forest, a known haven for criminal elements.
In response, Major General Nnebeife expressed his condolences to the monarch and pledged the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to intensify operations aimed at eradicating bandits and other unlawful actors from the forest and surrounding areas.
Prior to the visit, the GOC conducted an operational inspection at the Patrol Base in Babanla. From there, he and his troops advanced into Babasango Forest, where they successfully freed two individuals who had been abducted.
The rescued victims were later reunited with Oba Oluwole, symbolizing a significant victory in the ongoing fight against kidnapping in the region.
