Pastor Umo Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has issued a firm directive to political influencers and government affiliates to refrain from interfering in the upcoming civil service recruitment. He emphasized that appointments will be strictly merit-based, with no positions reserved for any individuals.

The Governor also highlighted the ongoing digital transformation of the public sector, a strategic move designed to establish e-governance within his administration. This initiative aims to streamline business processes and enhance financial accountability.

During a weekend event unveiling the new Computer-Based Test (CBT) center at the Idongesit Nkanga civil service secretariat, Governor Eno confirmed that the state is fully prepared to execute the recruitment exercise. The center is equipped to handle up to 2,000 applicants each day.

He noted that implementing CBT technology in the recruitment process is a deliberate effort to foster fairness, transparency, and operational efficiency, effectively eliminating the sway of political patronage.

“The civil service forms the backbone of effective governance. It is crucial that we recruit individuals who are competent and tech-savvy, especially in this digital age where artificial intelligence is becoming commonplace. Candidates must demonstrate basic computer literacy to succeed in the examination,” the Governor remarked.

“This approach guarantees that entry into the civil service is earned through merit, not through connections or favoritism. We are embracing 21st-century standards, and this is the direction we must take,” he added.

Elder Effiong Essien, the State’s Head of Civil Service, praised Governor Eno’s commitment to embedding e-governance within the public sector. He assured that candidates will have the chance to familiarize themselves with the CBT system prior to the official examination.

Dr. Frank Ekpenyong, Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, confirmed that the CBT center is outfitted with advanced digital infrastructure capable of administering 2,000 tests daily. He explained that the facility aligns with the Governor’s vision of leveraging technology to ensure a transparent and meritocratic recruitment process.

“This initiative represents a significant advancement in modernizing public service operations through digital innovation. It reinforces Governor Eno’s dedication to the ARISE Agenda, which prioritizes governance, innovation, and inclusiveness,” Dr. Ekpenyong concluded.
