From October 13 to 17, 2025, the National Amputee Football Championship will showcase fierce competition among Kano Pillars, Kwara FC, Kaduna State, Imo State, Abba Gida Gida FC, Niger State, Plateau State, and Phoenix FC. The event will take place at the FIFA Goal Project within the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
Beyond the quest for national glory, this championship functions as a crucial scouting ground for talent ahead of the 2026 Amputee World Cup, scheduled to be held in Liberia and Costa Rica from July 31 to August 9, 2026. The participating teams are expected to deliver some of the most intense and skillful amputee football action Nigeria has witnessed to date.
Chief Paul Maduakor, President of the Nigeria Amputee Federation, praised the commitment of the teams, emphasizing that their involvement reflects the sport’s ongoing advancement. “The dedication and enthusiasm shown by these players are truly commendable,” he said. “This tournament is essential for athletes to compete at a high level, develop their abilities, and gain much-needed exposure.”
Nonye Nwose, the Federation’s Secretary-General, underscored the significance of hosting the championship in Abuja, describing it as a pivotal move to boost public awareness and support for amputee football across the country. “This event not only allows players to sharpen their skills but also elevates the profile of amputee football on a national scale,” she explained.
Victor Nwenwe, the Technical Director, highlighted the championship’s role in evaluating player progress and identifying top talent for the national squad. “This competition is a vital platform to monitor player development and select the best candidates to represent Nigeria internationally,” he noted.
