During a press briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori revealed that the arrests were made following a strategic, kaduna/” title=”Troops Capture Notorious Bandit 'Mai Pankshin' Behind Reign of Terror in Plateau and …”>intelligence-driven operation. This action aligns with the directive from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, urging all police commands to intensify their crackdown on violent criminal activities.

The arrests stemmed from an armed robbery incident on October 8, 2025, in the Unguwar Wambai area of Dorayi Babba Quarters, Kano, where a group of assailants invaded a home around 2 a.m.

According to CP Bakori, the criminals forcefully took a Toyota Yaris, cash amounting to N3.7 million, mobile phones, and other valuable items after violently attacking the victim’s wife, leaving her seriously injured.

“Prompt action by officers from Dorayi Division and the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) led to the initial capture of one suspect, which subsequently resulted in the arrest of eight more individuals during coordinated operations across Kano and Kaduna States,” he explained.

The detainees are identified as Abubakar Aminu (22), Aliyu Aliyu (23), Abubakar Usman (22), Sulaiman Sani (20), Yusuf Yusuf (17), Abdulrahman Aliyu (23), Salisu Hussaini (17), Sulaiman Abdullahi (20), and Abdulmutallib Sa’ad (24).

Recovered items from the suspects include a double-barrel shotgun loaded with 18 live rounds, two pistols, an iron cutter, two cutlasses, four knives, three flashlights, and a red Toyota Corolla reportedly used in their criminal activities.

CP Bakori confirmed that the suspects admitted involvement in numerous robberies across Kano, Kaduna, and the Federal Capital Territory. They will face prosecution once investigations conclude.

Highlighting the impact of the Command’s “Operation Kukan Kura,” the Police Commissioner noted a marked decline in crime rates within Kano State, especially in cases of phone snatching and street violence. He praised the dedication and courage of his officers and expressed gratitude to the community for their crucial role in supplying intelligence that aided these arrests.
