Issued on Monday following a global summit held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, this declaration marks a significant moment as the US administration under President Donald Trump acknowledges the equal rights of both Palestinians and Israelis-a departure from previous stances.
Unlike earlier US policies that often placed blame on Palestinians for the ongoing conflict, this statement refrains from assigning fault and instead situates the Gaza situation within the wider context of the Palestinian issue. Historically, the Trump administration has avoided explicitly identifying Gaza’s inhabitants as Palestinians.
Nevertheless, the document stops short of explicitly affirming Palestinians’ entitlement to statehood and self-governance.
