Michael D’Angelo Archer, the Grammy-winning R&B icon better known simply as D’Angelo, has passed away at the age of 51.
The celebrated artist behind hits like “Brown Sugar” and “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” died on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, after a lengthy and brave fight against cancer.
His family confirmed the news in an official statement shared with Variety.
“Our family’s brightest light has gently faded… After a valiant and extended battle with cancer, we are deeply saddened to share that Michael D’Angelo Archer, beloved worldwide as D’Angelo, has left us on October 14th, 2025,” the statement expressed.
While mourning his loss, D’Angelo’s loved ones also honored the profound impact of his musical legacy.
“Though he leaves behind only cherished memories for those closest to him, we remain forever thankful for the powerful and soulful music he gifted the world.
