Lionel Messi has unveiled the inaugural Messi Cup, a global youth soccer tournament set to take place in South Florida, featuring prestigious clubs such as Inter Miami and Barcelona.
Organized by Messi’s production company, 525 Rosario, the event is scheduled from December 9 to 14.
The tournament will showcase 18 matches involving eight elite teams: Inter Miami, Barcelona, Manchester City, River Plate, Inter Milan, Newell’s Old Boys, Atlético Madrid, and Chelsea.
“Excited to finally reveal this project. This December, Miami will become the stage for a unique youth football competition bringing together some of the world’s finest clubs,” Messi shared on Instagram.
“This event highlights the future stars of the sport and goes beyond just the games – we have an array of engaging activities planned. It’s all about nurturing the next generation. Hope you enjoy it! Welcome to the Messi Cup.”
According to 525 Rosario, the tournament aims to influence the future trajectory of football.
“It’s more than a competition; it’s a dynamic series of live experiences combined with a digital platform that blends sport, culture, and innovation,” the company explained.
“Our goal is to create lasting value for emerging athletes, foster communities united by their passion for football, and offer brands meaningful, enduring engagement in the evolving football landscape.”
The participating teams will be split into two groups of four, competing in a round-robin format during the first three days. Following this, a playoff will determine rankings before the third-place playoff and final take place at Chase Stadium.
“The Messi Cup represents the intersection of today’s football and tomorrow’s talents,” stated Tim Pastore, CEO of 525 Rosario.
“It’s a celebration of skill, culture, and community, building legacies and connections that extend far beyond the pitch.”
