With the planned #FreeNnamdiKanu protest march set for October 20, calls for the liberation of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, are intensifying. However, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North in the National Assembly, has appealed to Nigerians to uphold respect for the judiciary, emphasizing that Kanu’s legal matter remains unresolved in court.
During a recent interview on TVC, Senator Kalu, who also serves as the senator for Kanu’s home constituency, addressed questions regarding the agitation for Kanu’s release. He stressed that discussing the release prematurely would be inappropriate since the case is still under judicial consideration.
The former governor of Abia State urged citizens to trust the legal process and allow the courts to deliver a final verdict on the dispute between Kanu and the federal government. He highlighted the importance of maintaining faith in the judicial system as the ultimate decision-maker.
“The case involving Nnamdi Kanu is currently before a competent court, and it would be improper for me to speculate on his release,” the senator remarked.
“Justice Omotosho is presiding over the case, and it is crucial that we permit the judiciary to perform its duties without interference. Nigerians must cultivate a deep respect for our courts,” he added.
“Engaging in discussions about Kanu’s release while the legal proceedings are ongoing would be unjust,” Senator Kalu concluded.
