Soldiers from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have launched a decisive offensive into the Fajul Forest located in Ibi Local Government Area, Taraba State, targeting suspected terrorist hideouts.
Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade, revealed that these militants had been posing significant threats to the communities of Badekoshi, Fajul, Kurmi, and Dampar within Ibi LGA.
He further explained that during the ongoing clearance missions, conducted as part of “Operation Lafiya Nakowa,” the troops successfully seized weapons, military attire, and a motorcycle, all believed to be linked to the insurgents and other criminal factions operating in Taraba State.
“On October 14, 2025, intelligence gathered by troops stationed at Tapga Ngasawa Village in Dampar District pinpointed the locations of terrorist camps around Badekoshi, Fajul, Kurmi, and Dampar villages,” Lieutenant Muhammad stated.
“Acting promptly on this vital information, the soldiers executed a series of targeted clearance operations across these areas,” he added.
During the engagement at Badekoshi, the troops encountered the terrorists, who were forced to retreat towards Fajul Village, situated near the forest’s edge.
“The courageous soldiers pursued the retreating insurgents with overwhelming firepower, compelling them to abandon their strongholds and flee deeper into the forest,” Lieutenant Muhammad reported.
Recovered items from the operation included one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, a single round of 7.62mm special ammunition, five rounds of blank cartridges, two fragmental jackets, two sets of military camouflage uniforms, and a Jincheng motorcycle suspected to have been stolen during a prior assault on Tapga Village.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their dedication and professionalism, encouraging them to maintain the current momentum until all criminal elements are eradicated from Taraba State.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of law-abiding citizens, emphasizing ongoing collaboration with other security agencies and local communities to secure lasting peace throughout the region.
