Kim Kardashian recently shared candid insights into the complexities she faces while co-parenting her four children with rapper Kanye West.
During an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the 44-year-old reality star reflected on the ongoing journey of raising their children-North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm-following her divorce from Kanye in 2021.
When asked by host Alex Cooper about what co-parenting with Kanye entails, Kardashian responded, “It’s definitely challenging. I’m the primary caregiver, and the kids live with me full-time. I strive to maintain a positive and healthy relationship between my children and their father, and I believe he understands that.”
She elaborated, “I consistently encourage that connection, but I also prioritize protecting the kids when necessary. It’s a dynamic process with ups and downs, requiring a lot of effort.”
Regarding Kanye’s recent involvement, Kim noted, “He reaches out when he wants to see them, but it’s been a few months since we last heard from him.”
When Cooper inquired if the children experience disappointment due to Kanye’s sporadic presence, Kardashian explained that the kids have always been aware of their father’s demanding lifestyle, which includes extensive travel and living abroad because of his career.
“They enjoy their daily routines and feel secure in their schedules,” she said. “My role as their mother is to ensure they remain healthy, happy, and grounded. Co-parenting is never simple, regardless of who you’re working with.”
Kim also addressed the persistent rumors suggesting she restricts Kanye’s access to their children. “That narrative is frustrating,” she admitted. “I’ve never prevented him from seeing the kids. There have been numerous occasions where I’ve wanted to share text messages to prove otherwise. I’ve encouraged them to spend time together.”
She emphasized, “It’s not a matter of ‘keeping’ the kids away-it’s a divorce, not a kidnapping. We can still coexist and share family moments like group dinners.”
Kardashian further clarified that whenever Kanye requests to see the children, she always facilitates those visits, though she sometimes suggests alternative arrangements if she feels the environment might be unhealthy, especially considering Kanye’s recent public controversies.
“I might say, ‘Let’s meet at my place’ or ‘Let’s find a better time,'” she recalled. “But often, when he’s struggling, he chooses not to see them, so it naturally works out.”
She reiterated that the children have traveled internationally with Kanye-from places like Saudi Arabia to Japan-whenever he has invited them, and she has never denied those opportunities.
“I don’t withhold the kids, and that false narrative is really disheartening,” Kim concluded. “If I responded to every claim online, it would be exhausting. The reality is far from the stories circulating, and that’s what truly matters.”
