The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has lauded Barrister Shola Gabriel, the Director of Legal Services and Board Secretary at the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), for his exceptional and altruistic efforts in advancing disability inclusion across Nigeria.
In a declaration issued by its National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Adeyemi Samson, the organization expressed profound gratitude to Barrister Gabriel for his “uncommon display of patriotism and dedication to social equity.”
NANS highlighted that Barrister Gabriel took it upon himself to secure employment for 13 individuals with disabilities within various federal government agencies. This initiative, the association emphasized, was not part of his official responsibilities but a personal commitment to addressing systemic disparities and fostering fairness.
Moreover, the statement revealed that Barrister Gabriel has initiated legal proceedings against 16 federal institutions that recently conducted recruitment drives without complying with the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018.
Characterizing this action as both legally justified and brave, NANS remarked: “This represents not only a constitutional obligation but also a principled stance against exclusion, marginalization, and injustice. It exemplifies the kind of leadership our nation desperately requires-leaders who confront wrongdoing and advocate for equity.”
The student organization praised Barrister Gabriel as a genuine champion of the people and a symbol of hope for advocates of justice, inclusivity, and transparent governance.
“His initiatives serve as a call to public officials nationwide to transcend complacency and mediocrity, becoming true defenders of the marginalized and unheard,” the statement emphasized.
Furthermore, NANS urged Nigerian leaders and influencers to follow Barrister Gabriel’s lead, asserting that widespread adoption of such courageous and compassionate actions would significantly enhance Nigeria’s inclusiveness and fairness.
“Barrister Shola Gabriel has not only made a mark through his deeds but has also delivered a powerful message to future generations: a single individual, driven by purpose and bravery, can effect meaningful change,” the statement concluded.
