Pat Akpabio, who is related by marriage to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has stirred fresh controversy by bringing up unresolved killings allegedly linked to Akwa Ibom politics during Godswill Akpabio’s governorship.
In a passionate video shared on Facebook on October 11, Pat openly accused the Senate President of betrayal and declared her intention to challenge him in the 2027 senatorial elections.
She told Premium Times, “For all the people you have had killed, both during your time as governor of Akwa Ibom and now as a senator, it will never be well with you.”
Once considered the cornerstone of Godswill Akpabio’s political ascent, his extended family-often referred to as the “Ukana Ikot Ntuen Cabal”-held significant sway and influence in Akwa Ibom politics. Many family members, including Ibanga Akpabio, gained wealth and prominence during his administration from 2007 to 2015.
However, fractures within the family surfaced in 2023 when Ibanga Akpabio threw his support behind Emmanuel Enoidem, Akpabio’s rival in the Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial contest. Similarly, Emem Akpabio backed Bassey Albert of the YPP in the gubernatorial race.
Insiders now describe the once-unified family as “completely fractured,” attributing the breakdown to greed and self-interest.
In her latest remarks, Pat accused Godswill Akpabio of turning his back on former allies. She named several politicians she claims he betrayed, including Umana Okon Umana, former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs; Nsima Ekere and Akan Udofia, both APC gubernatorial candidates; and Bassey Albert of the YPP.
She asserted, “Akpabio has a short memory when it comes to those who have supported him. If he runs again in 2027, he will face disgrace.”
Godswill Akpabio, who led Akwa Ibom as governor from 2007 to 2015 under the PDP, later switched allegiance to the APC. After losing his senatorial seat in 2019, he made a comeback in 2023, winning the Akwa Ibom North-West seat and becoming Senate President.
Despite his political resurgence, Pat insists his grip on power is weakening and vows to challenge his influence in the state.
“When your time is up, step aside. Consider this your official notice to quit. Go home and take care of yourself.
“Many Nigerians are unaware of who you truly are. When they find out, they will see you as a very wicked man,” she warned, urging President Bola Tinubu to be cautious of Akpabio.
Pat also highlighted that Akpabio’s hometown, Ukana Ikot Ntuen, has suffered from prolonged power outages, implying that despite his high-ranking federal position, he has failed to bring development to his community.
She further alleged that Akpabio accused her husband, Ibanga, of orchestrating the death of a close political ally, which she claims contributed to Akpabio’s 2019 senatorial defeat. Additionally, she said Akpabio accused Ibanga of embezzling his funds.
Pat declared, “I love you because you are my husband’s brother. I stood by you in 2019 when rumors were spread against you, and I never asked for a dime. Yet today, you have the nerve to claim you made me.”
She challenged Akpabio to address her accusations and threatened to disclose further damaging information about the Senate President.
