The Lagos State Police Command has called on the individuals involved in a widely shared social media altercation between a woman and an e-hailing driver, centered on an alleged attempted robbery, to come forward for a thorough inquiry.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, announced on Thursday via her verified X account that the command is fully aware of the viral post and is actively working to uncover the truth behind the incident.
“The Lagos State Police Command acknowledges the viral post and is inviting the parties concerned to present themselves. They can contact me directly through call or WhatsApp at 09055390070 for immediate communication,” Adebisi explained.
She emphasized the police’s dedication to impartiality, encouraging both the complainant and the driver to cooperate by providing their accounts to clarify the situation accurately.
The dispute erupted earlier this week when a social media user named @Big-Itohan accused an e-hailing driver of collaborating with a group of men to orchestrate a robbery after claiming his vehicle had broken down. The post rapidly gained traction, sparking widespread concern about passenger safety on ride-hailing services.
Conversely, the driver, James Oluwatosin, has refuted the allegations. In a statement, he insisted that his car genuinely malfunctioned and that he himself was threatened by local youths who appeared at the scene.
“I had no involvement in any robbery. My car stalled near Yaba, and before I could seek assistance, some local youths approached. I was just as frightened as my passenger,” Oluwatosin stated.
Meanwhile, the ride-hailing company inDrive, through an anonymous spokesperson, confirmed their awareness of the situation and assured full cooperation with law enforcement by providing all necessary trip records to support the investigation.
At the time of reporting, neither party had publicly confirmed meeting with police officials. Nonetheless, SP Adebisi reaffirmed the command’s commitment to resolving the matter conclusively to curb misinformation and uphold justice.
