Folashade Oluwafemiayo has once again captured global attention by breaking both African and world records at the 2025 World Para Powerlifting Championships held in Cairo, Egypt.
The distinguished Nigerian powerlifter achieved a remarkable lift of 168kg in the women’s over 86kg division, eclipsing her own previous world record and securing two gold medals for the highest total lift and the best single lift.
This milestone follows her outstanding performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, reinforcing her position as a four-time world champion and a dominant figure in para powerlifting.
In a fiercely contested event, China’s Wenjun earned the silver medal with a combined lift of 157kg, while Iran’s Nikoo Rozbahani claimed bronze with a total of 152kg.
After her extraordinary accomplishment, Oluwafemiayo warmly acknowledged the vital support from her coaches, fellow athletes, the Weightlifting Federation, and the Nigerian Sports Commission, all of whom played a crucial role in her success.
