FCT Minister Urges Abuja Residents to Support President Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid
By Myke Agunwa
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has called on the people of Abuja to show gratitude for the support they have received from President Bola Tinubu by backing his return to office in the 2027 elections. Wike emphasized the importance of aligning with leaders who have the government’s ear to ensure continued development.
Backing Leaders Who Deliver Tangible Results
Speaking during the inauguration of the second phase of water supply projects in Karu, a satellite town in Abuja, Wike praised former Senator Philip Aduda and the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, for their contributions to local development. He pledged to construct a 2-kilometer road in Karu, responding directly to Aduda’s request.
Wike described Maikalangu as a diligent and effective leader who has leveraged his government connections to bring multiple infrastructure projects to the area, including the rehabilitation of Saburi Road, Kabusa-Takushere Road, and Deidei Road. He assured that if Maikalangu secures re-election as AMAC Chairman, his administration would fully support his initiatives.
“Support Those Who Have Government Access”
“In politics, it’s crucial to back individuals who can deliver for the people and have the government’s attention,” Wike stated. “Aduda has the government’s ear, and that’s why the road he mentioned will be constructed. Since Maikalangu became AMAC Chairman, he has brought significant government projects to the community.”
Wike further clarified his stance, saying, “I don’t concern myself with party affiliations. What matters is support for President Tinubu. Anyone who stands with Tinubu will have my backing.”
Addressing Long-Standing Infrastructure Gaps
Highlighting the shortcomings of previous administrations, Wike noted that past governments neglected essential services like potable water in Karu and other satellite towns. He praised the current administration for fulfilling its promise to provide clean water, a critical need for the community.
“For years, residents lacked access to clean water despite promises from former governments. Now, under President Tinubu’s leadership, we are delivering on that commitment,” Wike remarked. “The people of Karu will remember the government that honored its promises and those who failed to act.”
Political Landscape and Upcoming Elections
Senator Philip Aduda served as the FCT representative in the National Assembly under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from 2011 until 2019. He lost his seat in the 2023 elections to Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party.
Meanwhile, Christopher Maikalangu, who defected from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2024, is campaigning for re-election as AMAC Chairman in the February 2026 Area Council elections.
Looking Ahead: The Importance of Strategic Support
Wike’s message underscores the strategic importance of supporting leaders who maintain strong ties with the federal government to ensure continued development and resource allocation. With infrastructure projects underway and promises being fulfilled, the FCT administration is positioning itself for sustained progress under President Tinubu’s leadership.
As Abuja residents prepare for future elections, Wike’s appeal serves as a reminder that political support can translate into tangible benefits for communities, reinforcing the link between governance and grassroots development.
