The Kano State Police Command has successfully uncovered and dismantled a criminal network involved in impersonating law enforcement officers to defraud innocent individuals across Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina States.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, revealed that the breakthrough came after reliable intelligence led to the arrest of five alleged members of the gang on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m.
The police-arrest-kidnappers-foil-trafficking/” title=”… Bust Human Trafficking Ring, Arrest Three Suspected Kidnappers in Akwa Ibom”>detained suspects are identified as Aliyu Abbas (35), Sani Iliyasu (47), Ashiru Sule (41), Abubakar Yahaya (45), and Adamu Kalilu (45). They were apprehended by officers from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) while impersonating police personnel.
Confiscated items from the suspects include counterfeit police identification cards, handcuffs, CFA 2,500 in cash, defaced Nigerian currency notes of various values, and a blue Peugeot 406 vehicle bearing the registration number NSR-188-BD, which was used in their operations.
“Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted to repeatedly posing as police officers using forged warrant cards to extort money and carry out other illicit activities within Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna States,” Kiyawa explained.
He further noted that the suspects will face prosecution once the investigation is finalized.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, reiterated the Command’s dedication to safeguarding citizens and their properties, emphasizing that any form of criminal impersonation or unlawful conduct will be met with zero tolerance.
He urged the public to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious behavior or individuals to the nearest police station to aid ongoing security efforts.
