Unizik Enforces New Policy: Three Final-Year Students Detained for Signing Out After Exams
In a recent enforcement of updated regulations, three final-year students at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) were apprehended immediately following their final examination for violating a newly implemented prohibition on signing out activities.
Background of the Ban on Signing Out
Earlier this week, Unizik’s administration announced a strict ban preventing final-year students from participating in the traditional signing out ceremonies, a practice where students collect signatures on their shirts to commemorate their final exams. This measure aims to curb disruptions and maintain academic decorum during exam periods.
Misunderstanding Leads to Breach of Rules
Despite the directive, some students mistakenly believed the ban would only be effective starting next academic session. Consequently, after completing their final exams, a few students engaged in the prohibited signing out ritual, having friends autograph their shirts as a keepsake, according to an insider who spoke to LIB.
Security Intervention and Student Reactions
Security personnel swiftly intervened, entering the examination hall to detain two female students and one male student involved in the activity. The officers forcibly removed the students amid protests, while their peers watched in stunned silence. The incident was captured on video, showing the tense moments as the students were escorted out.
