What a truly enchanting weekend it has been, one that had us eagerly refreshing our feeds repeatedly, all thanks to the beautiful union of Shawn Faqua and Sharon Ifunanya. The celebrated Nollywood actor and the talented event planner tied the knot this weekend, leaving us utterly captivated. Beyond their heartwarming romantic journey, it was their breathtaking traditional wedding attire that showcased the profound elegance and rich heritage of Igbo culture.
The couple dazzled us with not just one or two, but three exquisite ensembles during their traditional wedding festivities, including the iconic wine-carrying ceremony. Each outfit was a testament to the sophistication and cultural depth embedded in their heritage.
For their initial look, the duo embraced a palette of gold, red, and black. Sharon stunned in a shimmering gold sequined blouse paired with a vibrant red wrapper and a matching red-and-gold head tie, all in deep jewel tones. Shawn complemented her impeccably, donning a dark awuru fabric outfit adorned with isiagu patterns and a red cap embellished with cowrie shells. The coral beads were a highlight-Shawn proudly layered his, while Sharon chose gold-hued accessories that perfectly completed her ensemble.
Their second outfit radiated charm with a blend of white, red, and gold. Shawn appeared in a flowing white robe accented by a draped fabric, paired with a red wrapper and a red cap topped with a pristine white feather, angled just right. His coral beads contrasted beautifully against the white, adding a regal touch. Sharon opted for a striking red corset gown detailed with intricate beadwork. Her hair was styled in a traditional updo (suku), adorned with coral beads that matched her jewelry, creating a harmonious and elegant pairing.
The final look was a vibrant homage to the akwete fabric tradition. Sharon wore a dazzling white sequined top paired with a multi-layered akwete skirt, artfully tied at the waist. The skirt featured a masterful weave of blue, purple, orange, green, brown, and off-white hues arranged in geometric patterns, enhanced with subtle stoning for added texture. Her white headwrap, complemented by purple and silver jewelry and coral bead bracelets, brought the entire look together. She embodied a contemporary tribute to the timeless Igbo bridal style reminiscent of the 1970s and 1980s.
