In a bid to enhance regional collaboration on electricity accessibility and sustainability, the governors of Katsina, Kano, and Jigawa states have committed to forming a unified alliance to spearhead power sector reforms across Northern Nigeria.

Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, leading the Katsina delegation, convened with his peers in Marrakech, Morocco, for an intensive two-day strategic summit alongside executives from the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) and Future Energies Africa.

The core agenda centered on crafting a cohesive strategy aimed at broadening electricity reach in marginalized areas, boosting the reliability of the power grid, and fostering investments in renewable energy sources.

A pivotal outcome of the meeting was the suggestion to create a Joint Regulatory Commission designed to synchronize energy policies across the region and enhance collaboration between the public and private sectors to ensure sustainable electricity supply.

Governor Radda emphasized his administration’s steadfast dedication to revolutionizing Katsina’s energy sector through innovative approaches and cooperative efforts.

“This collaboration with KEDCO and Future Energies Africa is in line with our strategic plan for sustainable development and embodies our collective ambition for integrated regional energy solutions,” he added.

According to a communiqué issued by Ibrahim Kaula, the chief press secretary to Governor Radda, the Katsina delegation also featured the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura; the Governor’s special adviser on Power and Energy, Dr. Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed; the General Manager of the Rural Electrification Board, Abubakar Abdullahi Matazu; and Engr. Abdulaziz Kabir Abdullahi from the Department of Power and Energy.

By the end of the discussions, the trio of governors agreed to jointly invest in power infrastructure projects, expedite the rollout of renewable energy technologies, and attract reputable investors through transparent, investor-friendly frameworks.

This Marrakech meeting represents a significant milestone in Governor Radda’s vision to establish Katsina State as a benchmark for energy innovation and a key contributor to Nigeria’s broader energy transition and economic diversification efforts.
