The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken the step to suspend Dr. Usani Uguru Usani, its National Vice Chairman representing the South-South zone, following accusations of misconduct and activities deemed detrimental to the party.
This resolution emerged from a session held by the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) in Cross River State on October 15, 2025. A communiqué issued by Hon. James Otudor, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, and made public in Abuja on Monday, highlighted that Dr. Usani’s recent conduct violated the ADC’s constitutional guidelines.
The statement detailed that the committee thoroughly reviewed multiple complaints and reports accusing Dr. Usani of engaging in anti-party conduct, defying established authority, and actions that could potentially damage the ADC’s reputation, unity, and electoral chances. It was emphasized that, in line with the party’s disciplinary framework, Dr. Usani’s suspension will persist until a formal inquiry by the appropriate party bodies concludes.
Additionally, the SWC voiced concerns regarding the appointment of Ms. Jackie Wayas as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, criticizing the process for lacking sufficient consultation with Cross River State officials. The committee noted that since her appointment, Ms. Wayas has not engaged with the state leadership and suggested that her allegiance seems misaligned with the party’s cohesion and advancement within the state.
The committee appealed to the national leadership to reconsider Ms. Wayas’s appointment, recommending the selection of a qualified, reputable, and media-experienced candidate from Cross River State who demonstrates a proven dedication to the ADC’s principles.
Concerns were also raised about members of the Coalition Movement who have publicly declared their intention to join the ADC but have yet to formalize their membership. While acknowledging the ongoing registration process, the committee warned against dual affiliations and cautioned that the party will not permit its platform to be exploited by individuals with divided political loyalties. It was further noted that some coalition members who participated in ADC strategic meetings have since accepted interim leadership roles in their previous parties.
The statement concluded by instructing all coalition leaders and prospective members to finalize their registration at their respective ward offices within seven days, by Saturday, October 25, 2025, or face exclusion from leadership roles and decision-making within the ADC.
