On Monday, Justice Fatima Adamu delivered the verdict, finding Aliyu Hussaini of Sheka Sabuwar Abuja Quarters and Amir Zakariyya from Unguwar Malam Quarters, both residing in Kumbotso local government area, guilty on charges of conspiracy, armed-robbery/” title=”Ondo Court Hands Down …s to Two Men for Daring … Robbery”>armed robbery, and culpable homicide.
Justice Adamu remarked, “The defendants’ conduct demonstrates a blatant disregard for human life. Consequently, I sentence each defendant to five years imprisonment for conspiracy, ten years imprisonment for armed robbery without the option of a fine, and death by hanging for culpable homicide. May divine mercy be upon them.”
The prosecution, represented by Lamido Abba-Sorondinki, stated that on June 11, 2016, the accused men planned and armed themselves with knives and machetes before assaulting Buhari Imam, a lecturer at the state university, at his home in Sheka Sabuwar Abuja Quarters.
According to the prosecution, the assailants stole the lecturer’s mobile phone and inflicted multiple stab wounds to his abdomen, thigh, and back, which led to his death.
To support their case, the prosecution called three witnesses and submitted medical evidence along with photographs of the deceased. Although the defendants pleaded not guilty, the court found the evidence compelling enough to convict them beyond reasonable doubt.
The court held that the accused violated Sections 97(1), 298(c), and 221(a) of the Kano State Penal Code Laws.
