Comedian Zicsaloma Voices Exhaustion Over Frequent Police Checks in Lagos
Popular Nigerian comedian Zicsaloma has publicly expressed his growing frustration with the persistent police stops he encounters while driving in Lagos. The repeated encounters have pushed him to consider selling his prized Mercedes-Benz, not due to financial constraints, but because of the relentless harassment.
Multiple Police Interventions in a Single Day
In a candid Instagram video, Zicsaloma detailed how his day was disrupted by police officers who stopped him more than five times. Each stop involved officers blocking his path, forcibly entering his vehicle, and demanding that he accompany them to the station under various pretexts. Despite presenting all necessary documentation, including a legitimate tint permit, the officers allegedly dismissed his papers as counterfeit.
Suspicious Behavior and Public Recognition
The comedian recounted a particularly unsettling moment when the officers attempted to escort him behind the police station, away from public view. This changed only when passersby recognized him and called out his name, prompting the officers to alter their approach. After over half an hour of tense negotiation, Zicsaloma was finally released.
Continued Harassment Throughout the Day
Unfortunately, the ordeal did not end there. While driving towards Ajah Bridge, he was stopped again by another group of officers. Further along at VGC and even on his return journey, additional police personnel flagged him down, compounding his frustration.
Considering Selling His Car Amidst Ongoing Police Harassment
Expressing his weariness, Zicsaloma lamented that his Mercedes-Benz seems to attract undue attention from law enforcement. He emphasized that all his vehicle documents are in order, yet the frequent stops are mentally and emotionally draining. “I’m seriously contemplating selling the Benz. If anyone is interested, please let me know,” he appealed.
Such experiences highlight a broader issue of police conduct in Lagos, where motorists often report excessive stops and demands despite compliance with regulations. According to recent data from the Lagos State Police Command, complaints about unwarranted stops have increased by 15% in the past year, underscoring the need for reforms.
