On Saturday, the Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) collectively reaffirmed their unwavering support for the party’s upcoming national convention, scheduled for November 15 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
They issued a stern caution to dissatisfied pdp-and-nnpp-supporters-decamp-to-adc-in-katsina/” title=”APC, … and NNPP supporters decamp to ADC in Katsina”>party members, urging them not to disrupt the convention process.
This declaration came in response to comments made by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, concerning the PDP’s elective national convention.
Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State, stated on Wednesday that he was unaware of any plans to hold the PDP national convention and expressed his intention to oppose the event alongside his faction.
He remarked, “I have no knowledge of a convention taking place in Ibadan. As a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC), I have neither been informed nor invited to any NEC meeting. If those organizing claim to be holding an NEC meeting, so be it.”
In a formal communiqué released after their seventh meeting in Gusau, Zamfara State, the PDP Governors reiterated their full endorsement of the decisions made during the 101st NEC meeting in July, which confirmed the November convention date.
The statement emphasized: “The PDP Governors’ Forum fully supports the resolutions passed at the 101st NEC meeting in July 2025 concerning the National Convention set for November 15. We call on all party members to reject any efforts by anti-party elements to sabotage the convention and to recognize the PDP as the foremost democratic institution and the credible alternative for steering Nigeria towards effective governance and sustainable development.”
As Nigeria approaches a critical political juncture, the PDP governors‘ united front highlights the party’s determination to maintain internal cohesion and present a strong opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Recent political analyses suggest that the success of the November convention could significantly influence the PDP’s strategy and positioning in the coming years, especially as the party seeks to regain national prominence.
