Suspected Land Grabber Declared Wanted Following Fatal Clash in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has officially declared a man wanted in connection with a deadly confrontation that resulted in the deaths of three individuals in the Owode Onirin district. The suspect, identified as the CEO of Prosperous Ariori Golden Venture Limited, is believed to be at the center of the violent incident.
Details of the Incident and Investigation
According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson, preliminary investigations have linked the suspect to the violent altercation between local traders and land grabbers. The clash tragically led to three fatalities and left a police inspector critically injured.
“Three victims sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital,” Hundeyin stated. “The injured police officer remains in critical condition, receiving urgent medical care.”
Efforts to Apprehend the Suspect
Despite ongoing efforts, authorities have been unable to locate the suspect, who is believed to be in hiding. His last known residence was in Egbeda, Lagos. The police have appealed to the public to assist in his capture and ensure he is brought to justice.
“The suspect is officially wanted, and all attempts to arrest him have so far been unsuccessful,” Hundeyin emphasized. “We urge anyone with information or who encounters him to report immediately to the nearest police station.”
Context and Broader Implications
Land disputes remain a significant source of conflict in Lagos, with recent reports indicating a rise in violent confrontations over property ownership. According to the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, over 60% of land-related conflicts in the state involve illegal land acquisition and fraudulent sales.
This incident underscores the urgent need for stronger regulatory enforcement and community awareness to prevent such tragedies. Similar cases in other Nigerian states have prompted calls for comprehensive land reform and improved dispute resolution mechanisms.
