Lagos Police Refute Allegations of Criminal Acts at Airport Road Eatery

The Lagos State Police Command has officially dismissed a viral video accusing a restaurant on Airport Road, Lagos, of engaging in heinous crimes, including murder and the trafficking of human body parts to unsuspecting customers.

Official Statement from the Police Spokesperson

In a public announcement, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police, categorically denied the accusations, labeling them as completely unfounded and fabricated.

Swift Investigation Initiated by Police Authorities

Upon the video’s circulation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, immediately instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to launch a comprehensive inquiry into the matter.

The investigation concluded with clear evidence disproving the claims, confirming that no such illicit activities occurred at the establishment.

“The Lagos State Police Command urges the public to ignore this misleading video, which has no basis in fact and only serves to incite unnecessary fear and distrust among Lagos residents and patrons of the restaurant. We encourage everyone to continue their normal activities, including dining at the restaurant, as no wrongdoing was detected on the premises,” the statement emphasized.

Efforts to Trace the Source of the Misinformation

CSP Hundeyin further revealed that the police are actively working to identify those responsible for producing and disseminating the false video. The Command appeals to anyone with credible information about the perpetrators to come forward confidentially to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Individuals can contact the Complaint Response Unit of the Lagos State Police Command via the following numbers: 09111111150 or 09111111151.

“Our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Lagosians and local businesses remains unwavering. We strongly advise the public to verify information before sharing it to curb the spread of fake news,” Hundeyin added.

Context and Importance of Responsible Information Sharing

In an era where misinformation can rapidly influence public perception, the Lagos State Police’s proactive approach highlights the critical need for fact-checking. Similar incidents worldwide have shown how false allegations can damage reputations and disrupt community harmony. For instance, a recent case in Nairobi saw a restaurant falsely accused of health violations, which was later debunked by health authorities, restoring public confidence.

As of 2024, Lagos continues to prioritize public safety and the integrity of its business environment, with law enforcement agencies leveraging technology and community engagement to combat the spread of harmful rumors.
