In a decisive crackdown on child trafficking, the Abia State Police Command successfully freed 18 children, including eight infants, from a criminal syndicate operating in Aba and its surrounding areas.
DSP Maureen C Chinaka, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed in a statement dated Friday, October 10, 2025, that the operation culminated in the detention of ten individuals believed to be involved in the illicit network.

A woman from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, had traveled to Aba with her two children, enticed by a man who promised marriage but instead abducted her children upon their arrival.
Following credible intelligence, law enforcement officers raided a residence suspected of harboring trafficked children, arresting five suspects and rescuing eight minors.
Subsequent inquiries led to another raid along Aba/Owerri Road, where five more suspects were apprehended and an additional eleven children, including seven infants, were recovered.
The suspects identified include:

- Obiegbunam Von, 65, Aba
- Ezeoma Rejoice, 21, Aba
- Ngozi Owoh, 20, Aba
- Favour Ernest, 22, Aba
- Brittney Oyemuwa Zion, 22, Amuoji Uku, Obingwa LGA
According to the police report, on September 27, 2025, at approximately 9:40 a.m., the woman was deceived by a man who promised marriage and lured her to Aba with her children. Upon arrival, the man instructed her to buy food, leaving the children in his care. When she returned, both the man and her children were missing, and all attempts to contact him failed.
On October 8, 2025, officers raided a location where the abducted children were believed to be held, arresting five suspects and rescuing eight children, including one infant. The following day, another operation led to the capture of four more suspects and the liberation of ten children.
On October 10, 2025, the police apprehended an additional suspect and recovered one more child. The investigation continues at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
