Professor Timothy Adebayo, the outgoing vice chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) in Oyo, has been widely recognized as an outstanding and visionary leader whose stewardship over the last five years has significantly advanced the university’s stature.
As his term concludes at the end of this month, reflections on his impactful leadership have been shared.
During a special event following the University’s Governing Council meeting, Dr. Olutoyin Okeowo, the council chairman and pro-chancellor, commended Adebayo’s administration, highlighting the remarkable progress documented in the external auditor’s report. The occasion also marked the formal introduction of Professor Ebunoluwa Oduwole as the new vice chancellor.
Dr. Okeowo remarked, “Since Professor Adebayo assumed office in 2020, Ajayi Crowther University has experienced substantial growth, a feat made even more impressive given the current economic difficulties facing the country.”
He continued, “Those familiar with economic trends will appreciate the challenges reflected in Nigeria’s microeconomic indicators over the past five years. Many institutions lacking innovative and disciplined leadership have struggled to survive these turbulent times.”
“However, under Adebayo’s guidance, the university has consistently achieved annual progress, a testament to his exceptional leadership. On behalf of the Anglican community in the Supra West, I extend our heartfelt gratitude.”
The pro-chancellor also acknowledged the vital role played by the university’s management team, principal officers, and staff, emphasizing that their collective efforts were instrumental to the successes realized during Adebayo’s tenure.
“It was clearly stated in today’s meeting that no single individual can create a forest alone. Professor Adebayo’s accomplishments are the result of a committed team of leaders and staff members working in unison,” Okeowo noted.
“To all who contributed, on behalf of the Supra West Anglicans, I express sincere thanks. This achievement is truly a product of effective teamwork.”
Reaffirming the council’s vision, Okeowo underscored their commitment to further developing the university and enhancing its global ranking among top academic institutions.
He then welcomed Professor Ebunoluwa Oduwole as the incoming vice chancellor, urging all university personnel to support her in continuing the legacy of excellence.
Echoing the praise, The Most Reverend Williams Aladekugbe, Archbishop of Ibadan Province and a member of the governing council, reflected on the wisdom of appointing Adebayo five years ago.
“Selecting Professor Adebayo was not merely a decision but a blessing. His tenure has seen significant strides in both academic achievements and infrastructure development,” Aladekugbe stated.
“Despite facing challenges last year, divine providence guided us through, and for that, we owe him our deepest appreciation and praise.”
