AIICO Insurance Plc is intensifying its dedication to environmental stewardship through the launch of its ‘Recycling at AIICO Project.’ This initiative aims to curb the generation of non-biodegradable waste, foster mindful consumption habits, and cultivate a workplace environment that champions sustainability at every level.
Introduced in the final quarter of 2024, this project embodies AIICO’s conviction that true corporate achievement transcends financial gains. It embraces the responsibility to protect the environment for future generations, aligning closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 13 (Climate Action). This alignment underscores AIICO’s ongoing commitment to building a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable world.
The initiative’s primary goals focus on significantly reducing non-biodegradable waste produced within AIICO’s operations, promoting the reuse and recycling of materials such as plastics and paper, and actively involving employees in environmental awareness through continuous education and engagement activities.
Embedding sustainability into the company’s ethos and everyday operations, AIICO reported that following a successful pilot phase at its Ikeja branch-marked by high employee participation and tangible improvements in waste management-the programme is set to expand across all its offices nationwide.
Abimbola Shobanjo, AIICO’s Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Manager, emphasized the project’s significance: “The Recycling at AIICO Project proves that economic growth and environmental care are not mutually exclusive. To ensure the initiative’s long-term effectiveness, AIICO has implemented comprehensive systems, including the placement of clearly marked bins for plastics, paper, and general refuse throughout its offices. This setup simplifies waste segregation, encouraging employees to participate actively in sustainable waste management.
Partnering strategically with Wecyclers, a reputable waste management firm, AIICO guarantees that collected recyclables are properly processed and repurposed. Additionally, ongoing awareness campaigns are held to nurture environmentally responsible behaviors among staff, reinforcing a culture of sustainability within the organization.
