In the wake of Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Uche Nnaji’s resignation amid accusations of academic certificate forgery, former Vice President and opposition leader Atiku Abubakar has urged for a thorough, impartial, and transparent probe into the academic and professional qualifications of all Federal Executive Council (FEC) members, starting with President Bola Tinubu. Atiku emphasized that Nigerians have the right to uncover the truth about those entrusted with governing their nation and managing its resources.
Addressing the issue on his verified social media platforms on Wednesday morning, Atiku titled his statement, “Forgery as State Policy: Tinubu, His Cabinet, and the DSS Must Be Held Accountable.” He expressed deep concern that what should be a source of national disgrace is instead being downplayed as a mere “voluntary resignation” by the current administration.
The 2027 presidential aspirant highlighted that this incident is not an isolated occurrence but rather indicative of a systemic problem rooted at the highest levels of government. He remarked:
“The resignation of Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, has once again exposed the profound ethical crisis plaguing the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration. What ought to be a national scandal is being swept under the rug as a ‘voluntary resignation,’ an attempt to conceal yet another episode emblematic of the forgery that permeates this government.
“Uche Nnaji should not have been granted the dignity of resigning; instead, he should have faced immediate dismissal and legal action for deceit and document falsification. Allowing him to quietly exit only reinforces the image of an administration composed of fraudsters, impostors, and morally compromised individuals masquerading as public officials.
“Adding to the embarrassment is the fact that the Department of State Services (DSS), which previously disqualified Mallam Nasir el-Rufai over alleged ‘security concerns,’ is the same agency that cleared Uche Nnaji. The DSS’s failure in due diligence has subjected Nigeria to international ridicule and raises serious concerns about how many other unqualified individuals occupy critical government positions.
“This is not an isolated case but a symptom of a deeper malaise that originates from the top. It is therefore unsurprising that his ministers and aides have followed suit by fabricating documents, exaggerating achievements, and undermining the nation’s ethical foundation.
“I call for a full, independent, and transparent investigation into the academic and professional backgrounds of all Federal Executive Council members, starting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Nigerians deserve clarity about those who govern their lives and control their resources.
