Mr. Chigozie Omile, a trader operating within Onitsha Main Market, was taken into custody by officers from the Anambra State Police Command following allegations that he circulated a WhatsApp message accusing the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, of infidelity.
According to information obtained, Omile was apprehended late Tuesday evening at his market stall and subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where he remained in detention as of Wednesday when this report was compiled.
Attempts to obtain comments from the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, were unsuccessful, as he was reportedly engaged in a meeting with the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.
Nevertheless, a senior official within the police command confirmed the detention of an individual linked to the alleged WhatsApp post concerning the governor’s wife. The official noted that neither the complainant nor the accused had been formally questioned at that stage.
“Both parties involved-the complainant and the suspect-are yet to be interviewed,” the source explained. “We intend to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that justice prevails.”
While the identity of the complainant remains undisclosed, there are speculations that Omile’s arrest may have political undertones, as insiders reveal he is a prominent member of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) within the state.
