In a strategic move to revitalize its presence in Enugu State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially disbanded all local government and ward executive committees within the state.
Dr. Ben Nwoye, who serves as the chairman of the APC caretaker committee in Enugu, announced this development during a stakeholder meeting for the Enugu West Senatorial District held at the Golden Royal Hotel, Enugu.
He explained that this step aligns with directives from the National Working Committee aimed at restructuring the party’s framework in the state.
“Unity must be our guiding principle. No individual is above the party; whether you joined recently or years ago, we stand on equal footing,” Nwoye emphasized.
Highlighting the rationale behind the dissolution, Nwoye noted that investigations uncovered multiple claims to chairmanship positions at both ward and local government levels, necessitating a fresh start.
He also revealed that the APC is transitioning to a digital platform, with an e-registration process set to be launched by the party’s National Chairman in Owerri, Imo State, this coming Monday. Party members were encouraged to take full advantage of this modernization.
Adding her voice, Fidelia Njeze, a caretaker committee member and former Minister of Aviation, underscored the importance of fostering unity within the party. She shared that their mandate includes uniting the APC in Enugu State.
Njeze called for inclusivity, urging organizers to broaden participation in future meetings to accommodate the growing number of supporters.
“We must welcome everyone with open arms to strengthen our party,” she stated.
During the meeting, Barrister Godwin Onwusi read a communique in which stakeholders reaffirmed their unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu and committed to backing his re-election bid in 2027.
The group also voiced their endorsement for Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah to join the APC, while applauding the National Working Committee’s decision to dissolve the state party leadership and appoint Dr. Nwoye and Eugene Odoh as interim chairman and secretary, respectively.
