Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a female staff member of ARISE News Channel, tragically lost her life following an armed robbery at her home in the Katampe District of Abuja on Monday morning.
This information was confirmed in an official statement released by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi on behalf of ARISE News Channel’s management on Monday evening.
The statement further revealed that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has initiated a thorough investigation into the incident.
Outside her role in journalism, ARISE News Channel remembered the 29-year-old Somtochukwu, affectionately known as Sommie, as a qualified lawyer, a dedicated professional, and a supportive friend to many colleagues.
“With profound sorrow, the management and staff of ARISE News Channel announce the untimely death of our dear colleague, News Anchor, Reporter, and Producer, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu. Sommie passed away in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, following an armed robbery at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja. The Nigeria Police are actively investigating the case,” the statement read.
“At just 29 years old, Sommie was not only a treasured member of the ARISE News family but also a dynamic presence who resonated deeply with our audience,” it added.
“We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Sommie’s parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and all who knew her during this painful time. Though her voice has been silenced, her passion, spirit, and legacy will continue to inspire us. We are devastated by this loss and urge for a swift investigation, the capture, and prosecution of those responsible,” concluded Usman-Ajayi.
