The late Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a dedicated staff member of ARISE News Channels, tragically passed away after reportedly leaping from a third-floor building during a robbery incident. Her burial is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2025.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command reported that Sommie, as she was affectionately known by her loved ones and colleagues, jumped from her apartment located on the third floor of Unique Estate in the Katampe district of Abuja. This occurred amid an armed robbery attack that targeted the estate.
According to a family announcement, the UK-educated lawyer and journalist will be honored with a funeral service at Saint Theresa Catholic Church in Agulu, Anambra State.
Prior to the burial, a service of songs is planned for Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Corpus Christi Cathedral on Kaduna Street in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Somtochukwu, who once earned the title of first runner-up in the Miss Tourism Nigeria pageant, had returned to Nigeria after spending two years working in the United Kingdom, driven by her ambition to realize her goals.
Her uncle, Engineer Obi Maduagwu, revealed that among her aspirations were active participation in politics and championing the cause of women’s empowerment.
