Ademola Lookman played a key role in Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Lesotho but was sidelined for the subsequent match against Benin Republic due to a yellow card suspension.
Ivan Juric, the head coach of Atalanta, has expressed strong support for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, encouraging him to regain his top form soon, according to Soccernet.ng.
The 27-year-old winger, born in England but representing Nigeria, recently missed pre-season training as he attempted to push through a transfer to Inter Milan, who showed interest in acquiring him.
Despite Inter Milan’s pursuit, Atalanta remained firm in their decision not to sell Lookman to a rival Serie A club.
His absence from training sessions has negatively impacted his fitness, and he has yet to return to his optimal physical condition.

Lookman missed Atalanta’s fixtures against Paris Saint-Germain and Lecce but was brought on just before the final minutes in the match against Torino.
During the September international break, he featured in 73 minutes for Nigeria but was unavailable for the crucial encounter with the Republic of Benin due to suspension.
Juric’s Confidence in Lookman’s Recovery
Although Lookman is still regaining full fitness, Atalanta’s coach Ivan Juric has publicly backed the forward, expressing hope that Lookman will maintain a positive mindset at the Gewiss Stadium. Juric remains optimistic that the CAF Player of the Year will soon return to his best.

“We are focusing heavily on improving our effectiveness inside the penalty box,” Juric stated during a pre-match press conference ahead of Atalanta’s game against Lazio, as reported by Sportal Italy.
“We need to become more ruthless in front of goal, and I’ve noticed progress, especially from Sulemana.
“It’s also crucial to assess the condition of Lookman and De Ketelaere following recent training sessions. Both players are exceptional talents, and I am very hopeful about their full recovery.”
“My main goal is to see him return to his previous level. Before his injury, he was a player known for his high intensity, and I want to witness that version of him again.
“There is still plenty of room for growth, not just for Lookman but also for Sulemana. I firmly believe this Atalanta squad will continue to develop significantly,” the former Southampton manager added.
So far this season, Lookman has yet to register a goal or assist for both club and country across all competitions.
