Bandits reportedly attacked Wakeh Village in Kachia local government area of Kaduna State, killing six residents and injured nine others.
A resident of the area who pleaded anonymity, explained that the attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday with some residents kidnapped.
Reuben Buhari, the media adviser to late Kaduna State governor, Patrick Yakowa who posted on his verified Facebook page, said eight residents were killed, while nine were injured.
“They retired for the night, envisioning their future. Simple rural farmers with humble expectations: rest, arise, attend to their farm, and cherish life’s pleasures.
“Tragically, while they slept, armed attackers struck, bringing their dreams to an abrupt end. Eight lives were snuffed out; nine were injured. This incident bears an unsettling similarity to previous attacks, and the victims will probably be buried in a mass grave, after which life will proceed until the next attack. May their souls rest in peace,” Buhari wrote.
When contacted, Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, said he was not aware of the incident. “I will get back to you” but was yet to confirm the attack.
Chairman of Kachia local government area, Manzo Maigari when contacted by our correspondent pleaded to revert. “Please I am in an intensive care unit now let’s talk later.”
Maigari, alongside his deputy, Hussaini Abdullahi and member representing Kachia at the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Peter Agite visited the victims at St. Gerald Catholic hospital, Kaduna.
Kachia chairman’s media centre in a statement posted on social media confirmed the attack, “Earlier today, the Executive Chairman of Kachia Local Government, Hon. Manzo Daniel Maigari, alongside his Vice Chairman, Hon. Hussaini Abdullahi, and the member representing Kachia at the KSHA, Rt. Hon. Peter Agite, visited St. Gerard Hospital to commiserate with and support the victims of the unfortunate banditry attack on Wakeh Village of Agunu Ward in the early hours of today.”
“The Council officials were received by the attending medical doctor and hospital management, who briefed them on the condition of the victims currently receiving treatment.”
The statement said Maigari expressed the Council’s deep concern over the tragic incident, assuring the victims and their families of the Council’s continued support while reaffirming the administration’s commitment to working with security agencies to enhance the safety of communities across Kachia.
