Salihu Lukman, a prominent figure within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has identified the intense struggle for control over the party’s internal structures as its greatest challenge.
He voiced concern that certain leaders are prioritizing the advancement of select 2027 election hopefuls across the state, sidelining others instead of fostering inclusive and equitable leadership.
In a statement released from Abuja on Wednesday, Lukman, who previously served as the national vice chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), highlighted this issue.
He urged all party officials and members to halt the divisive attempts to dominate ADC’s organizational framework, which alienates those labeled as rivals.
Lukman emphasized that for ADC to become a formidable force capable of unseating the APC in Kaduna state, its leadership must commit to collaboration. He warned that anyone unwilling to contribute to a united opposition is, whether knowingly or not, aiding the APC’s cause.
“I make this heartfelt appeal out of deep frustration over the reckless mishandling of a vital opportunity to lead our people effectively. Specifically, I call on Mal. Nasir El-Rufai, Mal. Jaafaru Sani, and Alh. Bashir Saidu, as key opposition figures in Kaduna, to desist from fueling the chaos caused by aspirants vying to monopolize ADC’s structures at the expense of others,” Lukman stated.
“I implore Mal. Nasir and all our leaders to strive for unity among us. Only through solidarity within ADC can we rally the people of Kaduna state to overcome the APC in the 2027 elections.”
“Our goal extends beyond merely defeating the APC; it is about establishing a government led by ADC that embraces collective leadership principles.”
“We must move away from the era of singular, autocratic governors. Anything less than a government steered by shared leadership under ADC’s banner will be unacceptable,” Lukman concluded.
