Senator Samaila Dahuwa, who serves Bauchi North Senatorial District, has officially switched allegiance from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement of his apc-pdp-and-nnpp-supporters-decamp-to-adc-in-katsina/” title=”…, … and NNPP supporters decamp to ADC in Katsina”>defection was made during Senate proceedings on October 11, 2025.
In a parallel move, three PDP members from Kaduna State in the House of Representatives have also joined the ruling APC.
The lawmakers include Hon. Abdulkarim Ahmed of Kaduna South constituency, Aliyu Abdullahi representing Ikara/Kubau constituency, and Sadiq Abdullahi from Sabon Gari federal constituency.
During the Senate session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio read a letter from Senator Dahuwa, who attributed his departure from the PDP to ongoing internal conflicts, persistent factional disputes, and a lack of clear strategic vision within the party.
“My dedication to national service and the well-being of my constituents compels me to align with a political platform that champions progress, unity, effective governance, and discipline,” Senator Dahuwa explained.
He expressed his endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, praising the administration’s ambitious reforms designed to stabilize the economy, enhance governance, and position Nigeria for long-term development.
“These initiatives demonstrate the strong leadership our nation requires,” he added, emphasizing that the president’s policies resonate with his own legislative goals and commitment to Nigeria’s democratic advancement.
Senator Dahuwa also commended Senate President Akpabio for his “outstanding leadership” of the 10th Senate, which he credited with promoting unity and encouraging cross-party integration into the APC.
The defection announcement sparked varied reactions among senators. While some members of the ruling party welcomed Dahuwa warmly, opposition senators remained largely silent on the potential impact this shift might have on the PDP’s influence in the upper chamber.
Senate President Akpabio congratulated Senator Dahuwa and urged APC senators to embrace him fully.
“On behalf of the APC caucus in the Senate, we extend a warm welcome to you, Senator Dahuwa. Your move reflects the visionary leadership of our party under President Bola Tinubu,” Akpabio remarked.
Meanwhile, in the House of Representatives, the three Kaduna State lawmakers formally declared their defection to the APC.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen announced their switch during a resumed plenary session on Tuesday, reading letters from each lawmaker.
They cited ongoing turmoil within the PDP and the need to better serve their constituents as key reasons for their decision.
Governor Ubani Sani of Kaduna State, himself a former legislator, was present in the chamber to witness and endorse the lawmakers’ transition into the APC.
