Dr. Simon Ater, a candidate vying for the Benue State governorship in the 2027 elections, has vehemently condemned the ongoing wave of violence and abductions plaguing communities across the state. He described the relentless bloodshed as an intolerable series of tragedies that demand immediate cessation.
Expressing profound grief over the recent assault in Achakpa community, Makurdi, where over three individuals were brutally killed and numerous others kidnapped, Dr. Ater highlighted the escalating crisis.
In a statement issued by Elizabeth Atime-Chirkpi, media director of the AterSimon Foundation, the aspirant mourned the fresh attack that followed closely on the heels of the massacre in Yelwata, which claimed more than 200 lives. He emphasized the reckless disregard for human life currently afflicting Benue’s populace.
“It is devastating that just a short distance from Yelwata, where hundreds of our fellow citizens were slaughtered, another wave of violence has erupted in Achakpa. How much more pain must our people suffer before meaningful intervention occurs?” Dr. Ater questioned.
He voiced serious concerns about the government’s apparent lack of empathy toward the bereaved families, describing it as a “gross neglect of the suffering endured by our communities.”
“While our people grieve the loss of loved ones, with children left parentless and families uprooted, the governor-to-complete-abeokuta-papalanto-road/” title=”Ogun … Vows to Fast-Track Completion of Abeokuta-Papalanto Road Rehabilitation”>state administration is shamelessly planning a festival for October. This not only disrespects the memory of the deceased but also betrays those living in constant fear,” he asserted.
Dr. Ater also condemned the deteriorating security situation along key highways leading into Makurdi, noting that residents have taken to protesting the recent violence that has left travelers stranded and vulnerable.
He reminded the authorities of their fundamental obligation to safeguard citizens, stating, “The foremost duty of any government is to protect its people. Benue must be freed from this endless cycle of bloodshed. Enough is enough. Our communities deserve peace, respect, and safety within their homeland.”
Urging Governor Hyacinth Alia to take urgent and effective measures, Ater declared, “The Governor must rise to the challenge, mobilize all necessary resources, and exhibit the political resolve required to halt these atrocities. The era of excuses must end. Our people cannot continue to perish while leadership remains indifferent.”
Reaffirming his dedication to the welfare of Benue, the philanthropist pledged that his 2027 gubernatorial bid is fueled by a steadfast promise to restore security, honor, and economic growth to every corner of the state.
“We must reclaim our state from the shadows of fear. Our citizens deserve liberation. This is one tragedy too many, and it must be brought to an end,” he concluded.
