On September 8, 2025, Nicodemus Iorcher, a recently appointed educator under the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), began his teaching assignment at LGEA Primary School Tse-Ikyor, located in Guma Local Government Area.
Despite the official start of the academic year, attendance was notably sparse, with only a single pupil, Keghnen Upaa, showing up to class on Iorcher’s inaugural day.
Capturing this unique moment, Iorcher posted images on Facebook depicting himself engaged in teaching the lone student.
“Today marks my official resumption as a SUBEB teacher for the 2025/2026 academic session at LGEA Primary School Tse-Ikyor, Kaambe, Agasha, Guma Local Government Area, Benue State. With just one student present, I fulfilled my teaching responsibilities diligently. As a qualified educator, I am prepared to teach all subjects. We give thanks to God Almighty,” he shared.
The post sparked a wave of admiration online, with many commending both the young pupil’s commitment and the teacher’s unwavering dedication.
Among those moved by the story was Iho Terence, who generously donated ₦10,000 to support the student.
On September 16, Nicodemus updated his followers, revealing that he had personally delivered the monetary gift to Keghnen in the presence of the child’s parents and the school’s Headmistress.
“On Monday, September 8, 2025, I commenced my duties at LGEA Primary School Tse-Ikyor Kaambe, Agasha, as a newly recruited SUBEB teacher, following the official resumption date for the 2025/2026 academic year,” Iorcher recounted.
“That day, I conducted a lesson with the sole student who had returned to school, Keghnen Upaa, and shared a photo of us together. The post caught the attention of a kind-hearted philanthropist, Officer Terence Terna, who values education deeply. Impressed by Keghnen’s early return to school, he decided to support him with a gift of ten thousand naira.”
“Officer Iho transferred the funds to my account, and upon receiving the notification that same Monday, I immediately informed our Headmistress, Mrs. Alang Josephine Iorbee. Today, during the school assembly, I handed over the money to the Headmistress in the presence of Keghnen’s parents for safekeeping and distribution.”
“The Headmistress also distributed exercise books to other pupils who resumed the following day and encouraged the parents to provide Keghnen with all necessary school supplies. She urged the other students to emulate Officer Iho’s generosity and emphasized the importance of punctuality at the start of the school term.”
“We are immensely grateful to Officer Iho. The parents of the beneficiary expressed their heartfelt thanks, praying that God blesses him abundantly. God bless you, sir.”
