Tragedy struck at the Police Commissioner Junction in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Friday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals following a severe road accident.
In addition to the fatalities, six people suffered injuries of varying severity in the collision.
According to Usman Muhammad, the Borno State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash was triggered by a brake failure on a tipper truck, which then collided with a stationary Toyota Corolla and two tricycles.
Emergency response teams were swiftly deployed by the FRSC to the accident site to assist the victims and administer necessary medical care.
An official inquiry has been initiated to thoroughly investigate the factors that led to the incident.
Muhammad urged all drivers to remain vigilant and strictly follow traffic laws to minimize the risk of such accidents on the roads.
The FRSC also highlighted the critical role of routine vehicle inspections and maintenance in ensuring that vehicles remain safe and roadworthy.
Expressing sympathy, Muhammad conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished a prompt recovery to those injured.
The wounded were transported to Specialist Hospital Maiduguri for treatment, while the deceased were taken to the hospital’s mortuary.
