Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has authorized the disbursement of ₦5.8 billion to fully clear all pending gratuity payments owed to retired public servants of the state.
According to the Finance Commissioner, Alhaji Mohammed Gaidam, who made the announcement in Damaturu, this move highlights the administration’s steadfast dedication to supporting the welfare of civil servants who have faithfully served the state over the years.
He further explained that the governor has mandated the inclusion of gratuity payments in the state’s monthly financial planning from now on.
“Going forward, gratuity payments will be processed monthly alongside regular pension disbursements, preventing any future accumulation of retirement benefits,” Gaidam stated.
The commissioner emphasized that the ₦5.8 billion approval reflects Governor Buni’s empathetic leadership and the administration’s sincere recognition of the retirees’ valuable contributions.
“By eliminating this significant backlog and establishing a consistent monthly payment framework, the governor has not only alleviated financial burdens but also reinstated respect and dignity for our elderly retirees,” he added.
He also noted that the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Office of the Head of Service, is committed to ensuring the funds are distributed efficiently and transparently to all eligible retirees.
