Empowering Youth and SMEs to Boost Nigeria-South Africa Trade Relations
The Nigeria-South Africa Chamber of Commerce (NSACC) is intensifying efforts to empower young entrepreneurs and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as a strategic move to enhance trade relations between Nigeria and South Africa. This initiative aims to foster innovation and deepen economic ties through digital engagement and collaborative ventures.
NSACC’s Vision: Building on 25 Years of Bilateral Cooperation
At a recent NSACC monthly breakfast meeting held in Lagos, Chairman Ije Jidenma highlighted the organization’s commitment to expanding its membership base by focusing on youth inclusion and SME development within the digital economy. “Having established a robust partnership over the last quarter-century, our priority now is to create dynamic opportunities that stimulate innovation and strengthen trade connections between our two nations,” Jidenma remarked.
Media’s Crucial Role in Strengthening Bilateral Understanding
Felicia Phillips, NSACC’s director, underscored the importance of responsible and insightful journalism in bridging cultural and economic gaps. She pointed out that accurate media coverage can dispel stereotypes and build mutual trust, which is essential for sustainable collaboration between Nigerian and South African communities.
Unlocking the Potential of Existing Bilateral Agreements
Former NSACC chairman Osayaba Giwa-Osagie drew attention to the fact that more than 40 bilateral agreements currently exist between Nigeria and South Africa, many of which remain underutilized. He called for proactive government involvement to ensure these accords translate into measurable business growth and economic benefits for both countries.
Promoting Exchange Programs to Foster Cross-Cultural Collaboration
The session also advocated for the establishment of exchange initiatives targeting students, professionals, and media personnel. Such programs are designed to enhance mutual understanding, share best practices, and cultivate long-term partnerships that support economic and social development.
