China has accused the United States of conducting a significant cyber attack on its National Time Service Center, a crucial research facility under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The incident has ignited tensions between Beijing and Washington once more.
Chinese state media reported that authorities linked the hack to a cyber organization associated with the U.S. government, which allegedly broke into servers, took important data, and interfered with internal networks connected to national time synchronization systems.
China’s Ministry of State Security described the alleged operation as a “blatant act of cyber aggression,” demanding that Washington “immediately cease its cyber espionage activities” against Chinese institutions.

In addition to providing timing services to sectors like communications, finance, power, transportation, and defense, it stated that the time center is in charge of creating and distributing China’s standard time. It had given the center advice on how to reduce the dangers.
“The U.S. is accusing others of what it does itself, repeatedly hyping up claims about Chinese cyber threats,” it said.
The U.S. government has not yet issued an official response, but analysts say the accusation could further strain already tense relations between the two global powers amid ongoing disputes over technology, security, and trade.
Beijing vowed to strengthen its cybersecurity defenses and hold those responsible accountable, calling the attack a threat to national security and scientific sovereignty.
