Chuba Akpom, the Ipswich Town forward eligible to represent Nigeria, has called on supporters to stand firmly behind the team despite a challenging start to the season, according to Soccernet.ng.
The 29-year-old striker, currently on a season-long loan from Ajax under manager Kieran McKenna, has yet to make a starting appearance this campaign, featuring for only 35 minutes so far.
Ipswich Town’s season has begun without a victory. In the EFL Championship, they have recorded three draws and suffered a defeat against Preston North End. Additionally, their EFL Cup journey ended prematurely following a loss to Bromley.
Tonight, Ipswich Town will host Sheffield United at Portman Road. Akpom remains optimistic, confident that the squad has ample opportunity to reverse their fortunes.
“It’s understandable that fans might feel anxious, but we’re still in the early stages. There are numerous new faces, not only from this season but also from last, and everyone needs time to build chemistry,” Akpom shared with TWTD UK.
“During the international break, we focused intensely on our tactical approach-both defensively and offensively-and I believe this has already started to benefit the team. Progress is gradual, but we’re moving forward steadily.”
“That break was crucial. The manager has emphasized how he wants us to play and integrate the new players. Now, it’s about pushing on and making the most of what we’ve learned.”

Akpom Highlights Ipswich Town’s Strong Team Ethos
While Akpom admits he isn’t the most outspoken figure in the squad, he identifies himself as a leader and commends his teammates who maintain stability within the dressing room.
“There are several senior players who naturally take on leadership roles and keep the team united,” he explained.
“We’ve lost Chappers, who was a key presence in the locker room, but players like Wes [Burns], Clarkey [Harry Clarke], and Greavesy [Jacob Greaves] continue to hold things together. Many have been with the club for some time.”
“This is a fresh chapter, and it’s up to newcomers like myself, Jens [Cajuste], and Azor [Matusiwa] to rise to the occasion. We need to accelerate the team’s cohesion because the season is already underway.”
“There’s no room for delay now. We must adapt quickly, deliver strong performances, and demonstrate our capabilities on the pitch.”

“I lead differently-I’m not the type to shout or make a lot of noise, but when it’s necessary, I’ll speak up,” Akpom added.
“Leadership on the field means setting an example through hard work-pressing opponents, winning aerial duels, and taking responsibility. That’s the kind of leadership I aim to provide,” concluded the former Arsenal player.
Having chosen Ipswich Town because their style aligns with his own, Akpom is eager to increase his playing time as the season unfolds.
