Demonstrating a strong commitment to the well-being of its members, the FCT Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), through the Officers’ Wives Association (CDOWA), recently extended vital support to widows of fallen officers, spouses of active personnel, and other vulnerable individuals within the Corps community.

In the face of escalating economic challenges nationwide, the food distribution event held at the NSCDC FCT Command Headquarters in Abuja went beyond merely handing out food parcels; it symbolized solidarity, respect, and collective perseverance.

During the intimate yet impactful ceremony, Mrs. Bolanle Olayinka Odumosu, chairperson of CDOWA and spouse of the FCT Commandant, explained that the initiative was inspired by a heartfelt desire to uplift those who steadfastly support the Corps behind the scenes, especially during difficult periods.

She remarked, “This gathering is a testament to our commitment to fostering love, unity, and mutual encouragement within our community. As wives, mothers, and partners of our officers, we recognize the critical importance of standing united, particularly in trying times.”

Food assistance packages were distributed to 450 recipients, marking the third outreach effort spearheaded by Mrs. Odumosu over the past two years. She highlighted that CDOWA’s mission extends beyond providing material aid, focusing also on empowering women with the skills and resilience needed to navigate today’s economic landscape.

Mrs. Odumosu expressed gratitude to FoodBank Naija for their collaboration in facilitating the food distribution and acknowledged the unwavering support of the association’s national president, Hajia Aishatu Ahmed Audi.

She also paid homage to her husband, the NSCDC FCT Commandant, for his invaluable behind-the-scenes contributions that ensured the success of the outreach.

Reaffirming CDOWA’s dedication to supporting the widows of NSCDC’s fallen heroes, Mrs. Odumosu urged women to embrace innovation and resilience.

“Women are the pillars of our families and communities. It is essential that we think resourcefully, seek new avenues, and apply the knowledge gained today to strengthen our families and uplift one another,” she emphasized.

The program featured a keynote speech titled “Women and Economic Survival: Innovative Strategies for Family Sustainability,” delivered by the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat.

A widow, who identified herself as Mrs. Esther, shared that the outreach brought both comfort and a sense of acknowledgment.

“It’s more than just the food; it’s the reassurance that we are remembered and not forgotten,” she reflected.

Dr. Olusola Odumosu, the NSCDC FCT Commandant and host of the Food Support Programme, visibly moved by the event, praised the unity demonstrated by the CDOWA chapter and reiterated the Corps’ ongoing commitment to welfare initiatives.

“In times when economic difficulties dominate the headlines, this outreach serves as a powerful reminder that small acts of kindness, fueled by community spirit and shared sacrifice, can create meaningful change,” he stated.

“Let us take the lessons from today to build stronger families, support one another, and remember that our strength lies in unity,” Dr. Odumosu added.

Mr. Kingsley Nnaji, CEO of FoodBank Naija, who delivered an earnest appeal for enhanced support and collaboration between public and private sectors to combat hunger, announced that this initiative will now be conducted monthly.

“Good intentions alone cannot eradicate hunger,” Nnaji asserted. “Every contribution, regardless of size, brings us closer to a hunger-free Nigeria. Providing food is giving hope.”
